A Connecticut Yankee (Fan) in King Arthur’s Court

Very Loosely Based on the Novel by Mark Twain.

Dr. Henrietta “Hank” Morgan and fellow astrophysicists Dr. Matt Sullivan have just finished gathering critical new data from a total eclipse when they realize they’re in time to stream the ballgame. But Hank, a devoted Yankees fan, is accidentally knocked unconscious, and when she wakes, she can’t believe where (or when!) she is. Suspicious peasants surround her, and Sir Kay of the Round Table challenges her to a duel. Egocentric King Arthur arrives and orders Hank burned at the stake, but luckily he’s dissuaded by Merlin, the king’s wizard who is actually a time-traveling woman in disguise. Instead, they will have a contest and Hank chooses—baseball! Of course, conniving Morgana and her evil soldiers add more intrigue. Upbeat songs such as the humorous “It’s Unpleasant Being a Peasant,” and Arthur’s “It’s Good to Be the King” add plenty of laughs, and Merlin’s “Anywhere, Anywhen” explains her mission of traveling through space to make sure the world is a happy place. “Do the King Arthur” dance has everyone on stage move and groove. “Follow Your Star” and “Let’s All Travel Through Time” close the show on upbeat notes.

How to Survive a Group Project

It’s Group Project Day at school, and two ambitious students are on a mission to livestream the madness in a new episode of their web series, Surviving School: Tips and Tricks to Make the Grade. While documenting the chaos of group dynamics, they capture the absurdities and frustrations that unfold when personalities clash, deadlines loom, and expectations skyrocket. One group attempts a dramatic interpretive dance, another secretly enlists the help of a high-tech AI robot, a perfectionist engineers the ultimate A+ plan, and one rogue student believes sabotage is the key to success. But when the principal threatens to shut the whole thing down, the student filmmakers must scramble to finish their documentary and maybe discover some real lessons about collaboration along the way. This fast-paced, easy to stage, hour-long comedy is a whirlwind of miscommunication, mayhem, and unexpected teamwork, perfect for anyone who’s ever survived a group project.

The Formulaic Soul

Portrayed in a fantasy world, six teens were suddenly collected and taken to a secret government laboratory. Their parents didn’t react to their abrupt departure, and they had no choice on the matter. When the doctor arrives, he immediately begins the experiment. Seemingly simple tests are done to challenge their minds and bodies. Soon the tests really amp up and challenge their entire way of thinking. The teens, both in the dark and suspicious, are then told the truth about their existence. Can they live up to their planned futures? This show requires very little set, few costumes, and is entirely gender flexible. It is perfect for one-act competitions. About 25 - 30 minutes.

Set in the same exciting universe as "An Experiment," "The Applicant," and "The Four Teams," this show asks an important morality question when Dr. Runnels discovers the key to human cloning. Excited at the endless possibilities, Dr. Runnels knows that he now has the capability to recreate exact duplicates lost friends and colleagues but never stops to think whether or not he should.

Ruthie

A widow, Naomi, and one of her daughters-in-law, Ruthie, have moved to Naomi’s hometown following the death of her two sons in WWII, one of whom was Ruthie’s husband. Although Ruthie is the daughter of a wealthy and prominent family in another city, she wants to stay with Naomi out of love for her late husband and Naomi herself. Naomi accepts her Cousin Julius’ offer of a place to live, and Ruthie accepts a job at his laundry and dry-cleaning shop. At her new workplace she meets Beau, a young Army veteran. Finding himself attracted to Ruthie, he tries to gently aid her in recovering from the loss of her husband. It's not until she finds out that Beau suffered his own grievous loss during the war that a relationship really begins. Things become complicated when Julius’s entitled son, Junior, who has suffered his own loss, begins to inject himself into the couple’s budding romance. A final confrontation between the two young men results in a just and satisfying conclusion. While not a religious play per se, this is a modern version inspired by the story of Ruth in the Old Testament.

Hurricane Kate

Hurricane Kate is set along the Gulf Coast in 1994. The show explores generational trauma, suicide, and the constant search for belonging, with the most dysfunctional kind of family. Tinka doesn’t want to be here. After the fight she and her mother Kate had a couple Christmases ago, she swore that she would only come back to her family home to haunt the place. However, one of the many hurricanes to hit the Gulf Coast every year has come and taken her mother with it. Her three estranged siblings are here too. Ellen, the eldest, is struggling to stay calm and rational as she assumes her new role as parent and peacemaker. The itinerate Stuart has gotten by on charm, good looks and the occasional musical gig all of his adult life but is now trying to reform himself by the grace of God… again. Youngest Grace is fighting to live up to her name. She had the closest connection to their mother and saw the signs of the end approaching. Then there is Cowboy Bob, Kate’s fifth (and final) husband who is a ball of emotion which he is surprisingly in touch with. As a whirlwind of grief and generational trauma blows around them, this fractured family must figure out the future and reconcile the past. About 75-80 min.
